In their quest for emancipation, associations set out to make the invisible visible, the voiceless speak and the unheard heard. However, they can also be vectors of domination over their audiences. Where does this ambivalence come from? How does it come about, what are the mechanisms by which it is imposed and what are the means by which it can be acted upon?
