Forgotten reels piled up in Belgrade’s archives. Unedited, unindexed footage. In these dormant images, the echo of an era when nations sought a third path, refusing to submit to East or West. Serbian filmmaker and artist Mila Turajlić dove into the unique archives of ex-Yugoslav cinema, relics of a vanished country, to give voice to the aspirations of the non-aligned. After creating a two-part documentary, she brings this work to the stage, questioning what remains of the ideals captured in these images. How can archives become a bulwark against oblivion? Live, the artist comments on the footage, layering fragments of history with contemporary testimonies and audio recordings.
