In 1997, friends and musicians of the band Zebda recorded ‘Motivés’ to add a dose of current rhythms to a musical heritage steeped in social history. Songs such as ‘Bella Ciao’, ‘Le temps des cerises’ and ‘Hasta Siempre’ support yesterday’s battles, with their choruses responding to today’s struggles. It’s an album that’s as danceable as it is full of dissent, setting the pace for many protests and planting the flag of revolution. Twenty years later, this past participle continues to be conjugated in the present. Protests are as necessary as ever, and Motivés have re-released their album with a few surprises and exclusive tracks. As well, they have just started a major tour, which will stop by the Festival des Libertés. When people believe things need to change, music is always there; when they believe we need to share, music is there; and when they need to remember, when they need support, music is there!
