In the face of any dominant system, dissident ideas, projects, experiments or movements emerge, contesting or seeking to transform it. When they last over time and consolidate, they can often become institutionalised. What becomes of their transformational power? How is their integration into institutional frameworks consistent with the logic of resistance to power? What mechanisms lead to accusations of ‘exploitation’ or ‘instrumentalisation’ by public institutions? Does strong internal structuring necessarily involve a weakening of the critique? How can we maintain a culture of dissent and a power to act in line with the original intent?
