Patriarchy creates a universal system in which men dominate women. This patriarchal system organises the symbolic order and provides structure to social and economic relations. This domination is the cause of various types of violence. Economic as well as symbolic, they pervade institutions, despite the political will to eradicate them. How does the systemic violence of the patriarchy operate in health care and social aid? What does the prison system have to say about the gender dimension of this violence? Does the ethics of care offer a way out?
